Veritas Client Installation

The Veritas client installation software can be found at the following url:

For the *nix installation you can use the following code to download, extract, patch and install the client:

find . -name "*gz" -exec tar zxvf {} \; ; cd nb_45_dc_bs ;

The installer will ask you to choose the Netbackup installation type, select 2 for Netbackup Client Installation.

The client installs in /usr/openv/netbackup directory. The client bpcd can be found at /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpcd. This client runs using inetd, however if you are unable to have inetd running there is a stand alone version available by executing the following command:

 usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpcd -standalone

The client listens on port 13782 you can verify it is listening using netstat:

 netstat -a | grep bpcd

Once you have verified the client is running, you will need to add the following line to /etc/hosts. Note use the internal IP for backup1 if the server in question connects to the backup server using the an internal address C0001-planetbackup

You can now check your connection with the backup server, see the commands and responses below:

    # /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpclntcmd -hn C0001-planetbackup
host C0001-planetbackup: C0001-planetbackup at (0xbd010ac)
checkhname: aliases:
    # /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpclntcmd -pn
expecting response from server C0001-planetbackup
C0001-smbackup01.dllstx3 C0001-smbackup01.dllstx3 56100
